Musical Miscues

Back<
AS with any musician or group, there are certain items which are more valuable than others. There worth arises from a variety of criteria, such as:

1) whether it is a special edition / pressing, or
2) whether there are a limited number pressed, or
3) whether there are the same releases with different versions,
or
4) whether the CD, LP, etc. comes in a unique or slightly different packaging, or
5) whether it is a release from a different country, or
6) whether it is a test pressing (1st run sample), or
7) whether it is an acetate (source of all pressings.

While these are the normal reasons for their value differentials, the exception is for an error, goof, screw-up , etc........ Some of these are only minor differences , such as the EMI gaff with The Blue Ring Rage cover, as reported in my THE RINGS OF RAGE article in the EYE ON QUEENSRYCHE ( EoQ ). While this was a poor choice on their part, It was not an outright flaw, just a poor color choice. On the other hand , there are some downright dumb things done that add humor due to production folly. This is what we will examine here.

The first one comes from the Spanish 45 RPM promotional single for BEST I CAN. Can you imagine some promotional guy getting his butt chewed out for putting out BEST I CAN'T for the world to see!!!!???!!

While it has the same song on both sides , one little typographical error makes it two to three times more valuable than the UK ( United Kingdom) single ,which has the I DREAM IN INFRARED ('91 acoustic version) on the flipside. Consequently , one letter difference on a different country's release makes quite a difference to the collector!!!!!!!

The next "error" is a bigger one and comes from the pressing of Paul McCartney's MY BRAVE FACE 45 RPM single, which proved to be the proverbial " wolf in sheep's clothing "! This was to feature his newest song and had a trippy cover with Sir Paulie mugging it. It looked good , was properly labeled, and became a big hit, once it was corrected. Of course, the only problem is that McCartney fans were thrown for a loop when the voice emanating from the record was Mr.. Tate, rather than that of the former Beatle!!!! I guess this could be the question for a Rock & Roll Jeopardy answer as to what The Ryche has in common with The Beatles, besides the use of Abbey Roads studios!!!

The final one would be the CD release of the EMPIRE LP, which is quite the misnomer. This release literally was " Empire". The only problem was that it indeed was ONLY the song "Empire." Imagine the surprise of Ryche fans who expected to hear 10 more songs on this puppy, only to have the single track!!!!!! I guess this was McCartney's revenge, or something like that.

We will be showcasing these items for sale as well ,as Tour Wear for the road in October and November. :)
